How do you get all the protein you need?
Well, how much does a person need? For sure you can't look in a table for values, because these tables are made for omnivores. When you become a fruitarian your rate of nutrient assimilation increases. The rate might be 70-80% for fruitarians and maybe 20-30% for omnivores. This means that fruitarians need a whole lot less protein (and other nutrients too, of course) than omnivores. Some say that the human body, no matter what, uses 20-25 g of protein/day. Well, let's say they're right and that a fruitarian then should need about 30 g protein/day.

All fruit contains about 1% protein; that is 10 g per kg. Avocado (which most fruitarians eat a lot of) contains more, between 2-3%. I don't know for sure how much other fruitarians eat, but I eat 2.5-3.5 kg of fruit a day, which means that I get 25-35 g of protein/day (probably a bit more due to the avocados). We can see that it's enough, because I needed about 30 g/day. The banana, for example, contains all essential amino-acids and a couple more. In fact, in a banana you can find everything your body needs!

How do you get the essential fatty-acids?
All fruit (except watermelon) contains between 0.5-1.3 g of fat. A varied fruit diet will easily get you the essential fatty-acids. And then there is the avocado! About 16-20 g fat and all the essentials included.

Isn't it boring eating only fruit?
If you compare a fruit diet with any other diet you will find that there are much fewer options for combinations. Fruitarians don't see this as a problem; on the contrary, the fewer the combinations, the better. The best combination is NO combination. This means that the optimal meal is just one kind of fruit! You let this one fruit play all its tones in your body without disturbance and that means that you use its energy in the best way possible! There can be no digestive problems of any kind if you eat one fruit at a time, just a lot of vibrating energy. About the boring part, when you have been fruitarian for a while you always look forward to eating the next meal, because you know how good it will taste (and how easy it will be to make!).

How about warm food during winter?
This may be a justified question to someone like me in the north. And all I can say is that I do not feel like I need warm food. Perhaps a cup of herb tea. As always, heated food contains no enzymes and is therefore harder to digest. Another interesting aspect is that heated food makes your blood cells get into groups of several instead of being alone, which means that they will supply your body with less oxygen. And the less oxygen, the less energy...

Is it socially difficult?
If you have the thought that it is difficult, then it is, but if you accept your own differences, other people will too. I had a pretty hard time at the beginning of my fruitful life. There were a whole lot of questions to be answered; everybody asked me the same questions and they all wanted individual answers. Listening to me when I answered someone else was not good enough, which I understand. As mentioned before, it's quite easier to answer a person who knows a little about health and nutrition. Another thing is all those parties where food is served. I usually bring my own food (which of course leads to questions from those at the party who don't know me yet). Another alternative is to come after the meal, which is pretty OK. If someone like me to come to dinner, I usually bring something of my own with me, and that is often accepted. I believe that there are quite a few who think that I'm pretty strange and a little too extreme. I let people think just what they want to think. It doesn't hurt my feelings at all.

RE: Frukterian kunskap
from EVU News, Issue 3 /1998

http://www.european-vegetarian.org/evu/e...index.html

Kosotie and Marie are a young couple who live in the south of Sweden, in a small town called Akarp. Kosotie is 38, and Marie is 34 years old, and they have a 16-month-old boy, Alve. They live a good and happy life, all is well, in fact, very well with them. Kosotie, who lived a typical life until he was 31, realized that he had to get rid of his asthma, allergy, cold hands, skin problems, constipation, etc., he simply had to change his lifestyle! Prescribed drugs didn't help any more, so he decided to become a vegetarian. After a year, his health seemed to improve, although there were still problems.

Being a curious person, he turned to veganism, mostly because of ethical reasons, as well as for the sake of his health.

A year later he didn't notice any big improvements, and his health problems continued, and he discovered raw foods. He became a raw food vegan and continued with this diet for over two years. It seemed to help him more than the previous diet, and he became very interested in nutrition and body-ecology. One day he stumbled upon a lecture on fruitarianism, and with that additional information has continued to live for the last two years. Now he has no asthma, no allergies, no skin problems, no constipation, and says he feels better than ever. He continues to get rid of his old toxins, or "old sins" as he puts it. He says to create health you have to give the body what it was designed for. Being clean on the inside as well as the outside is the proper way to do it. He adds that everything in the human body points out that we are pure fruitarians. It takes millions of years for us to evolve to changes in our environment, and we haven't done that yet. Cooked food has only been around for some ten or twenty thousand years what did we eat before that time? Raw food. Kosotie has started a fruitarian organization in Sweden, with about 25 members, and it is growing. He also works out with weightlifting and yoga.

Marie and Kosotie met four years ago. Marie had been living a rather "normal" life, trying vegetarian foods for some time, but had made no commitment to that diet until she met Kosotie. Love can move mountains, or at least it can change a person! Today she lives better than ever on a vegan diet, 90% raw foods and some daily cooked simple food for lunch and she is moving steadily towards an "all raw" diet.

So far, so good, but that's not the end of this story. No. Their pretty baby Alve is a subject all by himself. His health is excellent. He is very secure, in harmony with life, stronger than most babies in the whole of Sweden! He's been breast fed since birth and still gets this "goodie".

At six months' age he was started on fruit juice, slowly adding more and more to his diet. Today he eats a banana, four plums plus one or two figs and some breast milk! Well, he is pure energy. And what about illnesses? What about them? He hasn't had any, other than a few minor colds, or detoxification, as they say. He hasn't been given any vaccinations, since his parents don't believe in poisoning someone to good health, especially not since reading about "natural hygiene". Alve has been carried in a babysling right from birth, either on his stomach or his back this has given him an easy, safe and loving start in life as well as satisfaction for the parents. Alve is strong as a monkey and is not afraid of people, as is sometimes the case with other "normal" children. He seldom cries, doesn't have a "runny" nose... he's just a happy, playful and superhealthy baby.

So what's the problem? Well, Kosotie and Marie have no problems, but many of their family have problems with their lifestyle. The local medical establishment doesn't like their lifestyle at all. The doctors say Alve will get serious diseases and become crippled and other nasty problems, so his parents have stopped taking Alve to the doctor. Now it's only Marie's parents who complain about her new lifestyle.

Kosotie and Marie have discovered a lot of the health myths that are found in today's society, and welcome any-one who wishes to contact them for advice, friendship, questions or help. They also have big plans to move to Spain and set up a health center, or maybe even a community, but that's a whole other story. They invite everyone to feel free to write them for information.
